A home cinema can be a dedicated cinema room, an upgraded TV room or music in the rooms you choose. We design and install all three in Dubai villas and apartments, and we plan each one around the room you actually have.

Which one suits you depends on the space you have and how easily sound carries to bedrooms or neighbours. It also depends on the stage of your project: a new build, a renovation or a finished home. Below we explain each option, what we check before we design it, and what happens after installation.

## Which option suits your home?

Most homes fit one of three setups, and you can combine them. A villa might have a cinema in the basement and music in the kitchen, on the terrace and in the bedrooms.

- Dedicated cinema room: a closed room used only for films, sport and games. It has a projector or large screen, speakers around the seats and acoustic treatment (panels that cut echo and keep the sound clear).
- Media room or upgraded TV room: a living or family room you keep using as normal. It gets a better screen, a sound system and lighting scenes for watching.
- Multi-room audio: music in several zones. A zone is an area that plays its own music at its own volume, controlled from keypads or the app.

## What goes into a dedicated cinema room?

A good cinema room comes from planning the screen, speakers, seats, lighting and walls together. If you plan one of them on its own, the others suffer.

Our Dubai Hills project is a complete cinema with a full 8.2 sound system. That means eight speakers placed around the room, plus two subwoofers (the speakers that handle deep bass).

Here is what we plan with you:

- Room shape and seating: where the seats go decides where the screen and speakers go.
- Screen or projector: a projector suits a room you can make fully dark. A large TV copes better with some daylight.
- Speakers and the AV receiver, the box that decodes the film's sound and sends it to each speaker.
- Seating, screens and acoustic panels: we can supply these, so they are chosen as part of one design.
- Acoustic treatment and sound isolation: our own team does this work. The room sounds right, and less sound reaches the rest of the house.
- Lighting, AC and curtains: one button can dim the lights, close the blinds and start the film.
- Equipment rack: a ventilated space for the receiver, amplifiers and streaming boxes, with access for servicing.
- Sound calibration: at the end of every cinema installation, we tune the sound with a measurement microphone. This balances it where you sit.

## Can you have a home cinema in an apartment?

Yes, though in an apartment the plan usually leans towards a media room rather than a closed cinema. Your neighbours are a wall or a floor away, so sound isolation and the choice of subwoofer matter more than in a villa.

A better TV room is often the right fit here: sound matched to the room, lighting scenes for watching, and motorised blinds to cut glare. Our JBR project is an upscale TV room of this kind.

A villa usually gives you more to work with. A spare bedroom or a basement can become a dedicated cinema, with the walls, ceiling and door treated to keep the sound in.

## How does multi-room audio work?

Multi-room audio can play different music in different rooms, each at its own volume, or the same song everywhere. You control it from the app or from keypads on the wall.

There are two ways to build it. The right one depends on your budget and how you use each room.

Wireless speakers such as Sonos need power and a good Wi-Fi signal, not new cables. That makes them easy to add to a finished home. Ceiling and wall speakers wired to amplifiers go in best during a new build or major renovation, before the ceilings are closed.

Many villa owners also want music on the terrace, by the pool or in the garden. Those zones need speakers made for outdoor use. Brands we fit include Sonos, Bang & Olufsen and Denon, and we explain why we chose each one for your rooms.

## How does it link to the rest of your smart home?

Your cinema and audio can run on the same system as your lighting, AC, curtains and blinds. A single movie scene can dim the lights, close the curtains, set the AC and switch on the screen.

This runs through Symphony, our own automation platform, which we built to make large, complex homes easier to manage. In wired homes we use KNX, a standard for wired home control.

You do not need the internet to control your home from inside it, as long as your Wi-Fi is working. If the network goes down, the keypads still work.

## What affects the cost?

It depends on what you want the room to do. We can design a mid-range system or a high-end one. These are the main things that affect the budget:

- The size and shape of the room
- A dedicated cinema, a media room or audio only
- How many audio zones you want, indoors and outdoors
- Wired or wireless speakers, and whether it is a new build or a retrofit (adding to a finished home)
- How much acoustic treatment and sound isolation the room needs
- The brands of screen, projector, speakers and amplifier
- How much is linked to lighting, AC and curtains

## What happens after it is installed?

The screens, projectors, speakers and other equipment carry their manufacturers' own warranties.

Our maintenance plans can include your cinema and audio: software updates, speaker checks and re-tuning the sound after changes to the room. We build each plan around what you need. Read more about [smart home repair and maintenance](https://staging.avario.ae/articles/smart-home-maintenance/).

If something goes wrong, message our support team through the chat in the Avario app, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.

## For interior designers and architects

A cinema or media room works best when we join before the finishes are chosen. Screen size, speaker positions, acoustic panels, the equipment rack and the lighting all shape the room. Moving them later costs time. We work from your drawings, so the earlier you bring us in, the better.

We provide lighting design and work with local lighting specialists. We also work alongside your curtain supplier, handle acoustic treatment with our own team, and can supply seating, screens and panels. That way everything is planned with your finishes, not added afterwards.

## Questions people ask

Do I need a dedicated room for a home cinema? No. A media room gives you a better picture and sound in a room you already use. A dedicated room makes sense when you want full darkness and need to keep the sound away from the rest of the home.

Can multi-room audio go into a finished home? Yes. Wireless speakers need power and good Wi-Fi rather than new cables, so the ceilings stay closed.

Can I see or hear one of your cinema rooms? Yes. Ask at your home visit and we can arrange a visit to our Dubai Hills cinema or JBR TV room. If a past client agrees, we can also put you in touch with them. You can also browse our smart home projects in Dubai.

Do you tune the sound once the room is finished? Yes. We calibrate every cinema we install with a measurement microphone, and we can re-tune it later if the room changes.

How do I get started? [Book a home visit or engineering survey](https://staging.avario.ae/articles/book-survey/) and we will contact you the next business day to arrange it. Our engineer looks at the room and asks what you want to watch and listen to. You usually get a written quote within two days. If you would rather talk first, call us on +971 4 458 2205.
