Smart home installers in Dubai: from survey to handover
How our smart home installers in Dubai work: home visit, written quote, installation and the files, passwords and records you keep at handover.
Our smart home installers in Dubai take your villa or apartment through four steps: a home visit or engineering survey, a design and written quote, installation, and handover. At handover you keep every system file and password, so you or any installer you choose can change the system later.
Our own team does all the programming and commissioning, which means setting up and testing every device. Here is what happens at each step.
What happens at the home visit or survey?
Our engineer comes to your home, checks your wiring and AC units, and runs a full Wi-Fi analysis with UniFi tools. If you already have a smart system, we start with a health check. This adds a FLIR thermal camera scan to look for hot spots, meaning parts that run hotter than they should.
If you message or email us, we get in touch the next business day. Your written quote usually follows 2 days after the visit. If your home is still off-plan, we can prepare a budgetary estimate from the drawings first.
Your quote depends on the size of your home, wired or wireless, new build or renovation, the brands you choose and how much you want to control.
Wired or wireless: which will we design?
For a new villa, we recommend wired KNX, a standard where your switches, keypads and sensors share one control cable. Avario is a registered KNX Partner. In a finished apartment that isn't KNX ready, the best time to wire is during a major renovation.
If you'd rather not cut into walls, a wireless system using Zigbee (a radio standard for smart devices) is usually the simpler route.
Both run on Symphony, our automation platform, which we designed to make large, complex homes easier to manage. Our guide to KNX automation explains the wired option in more detail.
How long does installation take?
A wireless installation usually takes a couple of days on site.
Wired systems go in alongside the build or a major renovation, because the cable has to be in place before the walls and ceilings are closed. Our team can run the cable, or we work with your MEP contractor (the firm handling mechanical, electrical and plumbing). During the main wiring stage, we check the contractor's work every 2 days.
What do you keep at handover?
You keep everything needed to change or upgrade your system later. Your handover includes as standard:
- the system's programming file (for KNX this is the ETS project file; ETS is the software used to program KNX)
- all passwords, with logins reset in your name and old users removed
- written system records
- drawings and a wiring schedule
- a training session for your household
Why do the files matter?
We often meet people who have moved into a home with an older system and no passwords or configuration file. Without them, nobody can change or upgrade the system, and the only fix is a full reprogram.
If that sounds like your home, read about taking over a system from another installer.
What happens after handover?
The equipment carries its manufacturers' warranties.
For support, use the chat in our app, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm. We fix most faults remotely, and you approve each remote session. Our page on smart home repair and maintenance explains servicing plans, which we build around what your home needs.
Building or designing a home for a client?
If you are a contractor, developer, interior designer or architect, we work from your drawings, alongside your team and your MEP contractor. The earlier we join the project, the better. Our smart home partner page for the trade explains how we work together.
