Smart homes let you run lighting, AC, curtains, locks and cameras from keypads, the app or a schedule, instead of one switch at a time. Choosing one comes down to two decisions: how it connects (wired or wireless) and where it runs (inside your home or over the internet).

What does a smart home actually do for you?

It takes over the small jobs you repeat every day. Most Dubai homes start with lighting, AC and curtains.

Wired or wireless: which suits your home?

It depends on whether your walls are still open. For a new villa or a major renovation, we recommend wired KNX, an open international standard for home and building control. The cables go in before the walls are closed.

In a finished home, wireless is simpler because your walls stay as they are. We use Zigbee, the wireless system we find works best in the UAE, and installation usually takes a couple of days. See when wireless smart homes work in Dubai or KNX automation explained.

Cost depends on the size of your home, wired or wireless, new build or renovation, the brands you choose and how much you want to control.

Cloud or local: what happens when the internet goes down?

A local system keeps working when the internet drops, because it runs inside your home. Our hub (the small box that runs your system) runs Symphony, the platform we built to make large, complex homes easier to manage.

Without the internet, your keypads, schedules and locks carry on, and the app still works over your home Wi-Fi. Only control from outside the home stops. If the Wi-Fi fails too, the keypads still work. There is more in privacy and offline control.

How do I choose who installs it?

Choose a company that designs, installs and maintains the system, and hands over the files you need to change it later. Without those files, the next owner often has to have the whole system reprogrammed.

We are a registered KNX Partner, and we give you the ETS project file (the programming file for a KNX system) and all passwords as standard. Equipment warranties come from the makers. See how to choose a smart home company in Dubai.

For interior designers and architects

Bring us in at concept stage, so keypads, sensors and equipment space are in your drawings from the start. We can do the lighting design or work with your lighting specialist, and we work alongside curtain suppliers.

We bring finish samples from our 18 high-end switch panel suppliers to you. Call us on +971 4 458 2205 to talk about a project.

What is the next step?

Book a home visit or engineering survey. We get in touch the next business day to arrange it. Our engineer looks at your home or your plans, and you usually get a written quote 2 days after the visit.
